We are still seeking responsible adults to assist with morning drop off from 8:00 to 8:25 each day.  If you are able to assist with this on one or more days per week in the upper or lower parking lot, please call our office at (408) 364-4259.  Thanks you in advance for your help in keeping our students safe and the traffic moving.

In the morning, a warning bell sounds at 8:17.  At this time, teachers begin to open their classroom doors so students can put away their backpacks and lunches and get ready for school to begin.

At 8:20, the final bell rings and the school day begins.  The first task that teachers do is to take roll of the students who are present.  Since this is online, it takes only about a minute to mark those who are missing and submit it electronically to the office.  Once this happens, the teacher begins to teach.  Students who arrive after 8:20 are marked absent in the system and if students do not enter campus through the office, parents receive a call telling them that their student is not at school.

If your student arrives at school after 8:20, they must go through the office and obtain a tardy slip so that the absence report can be corrected.  Please take your child through the office if you are escorting them or remind them to stop by if you are dropping them off.  Thank you!

Our year at school has been going very well so far.  The pace of construction has slowed considerably due to classes being in session and the long holiday weekend.  I have met with the construction manager and a plan is in place for work to continue on weekends and after school times.  Some work may be done during school hours if it is not too noisy or disruptive to the classes.  We are excited about the many changes that have already occurred and look forward to the ongoing progress.

Back to School Nights are coming up!  Our TK and Kindergarten Parents will meet with their teachers on Wednesday, September 13th and 1st to 5th grade parents will meet with their teachers on Wednesday, September 27th.  Note that these are adult only events.  Child care will not be provided and children may not be on campus unsupervised.  Please see the articles regarding grade level specific information and times on our website.

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us and your ongoing support of our school and our Parent/Teacher Association!

Since this may be your first experience with the public school system, it is very important for you to attend Back to School for your child’s class.  These meetings are intended for parents only, so please do not bring your child/ren with you.  This is an opportunity for you to hear about the instructional program at your child’s grade level, learn about classroom and school site policies and procedures, get to know your child’s teacher, and ask questions.  We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00 p.m.

During Back to School Night, you will have an opportunity to hear from our Parent/Teacher Association representatives and learn more about all of the work they do to support our school.  All TK and Kindergarten parents will meet together at the beginning of the evening in the cafeteria before proceeding to their child’s classroom.  Here is the schedule:

6:00 to 6:30--All parents meet in the cafeteria for general information

6:30 to 7:30--Parents will meet with their child’s teacher in the classrooms.

This year, Back to School Night for 1st to 5th grade will be held on September 27th.  These meetings are intended for parents only, so please do not bring your child/ren with you.  The schedule will include a session with your individual teacher(s) as well as a general meeting for all parents.  The schedule is as follows:

6:00 to 6:30--Parents of students in 1st to 3rd grades meet with their teachers in the classrooms

6:30 to 7:00--All parents meet on the grass area in front of rooms 10-12 for important information from the principal, our PTA, and to meet all of the teachers.  Tables will also be set up to purchase Marshall Lane spirit wear and to find out information about the PTA, Project Cornerstone, Art Connections, and volunteer opportunities.

7:00 to 7:30--Parents of students in 4th and 5th grades meet with their teachers in the classrooms.

Even if you have had children at Marshall Lane for many years, Back to School Night is still an important event.  It is an opportunity for you to hear about the instructional program at your child’s current grade level, learn about classroom and school site policies and procedures, get to know your child’s teacher, and ask questions.  We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:00 p.m. for this important meeting.

At Marshall Lane, we have a strong tradition of maintaining close ties with our parent community through our PTA.  By working together, the experience of our students at the school is greatly enhanced by volunteer participation as well as by programs that are funded for all students through this organization.

Whether you are new at Marshall Lane or are a seasoned parent here, we welcome your support by attending our PTA Meetings and participating in whatever manner suits your talents and your schedule.  Our dynamic PTA Board is ready to lead you in the activities and events that support your students.  We hope to see you on September 19th for this important meeting!

As you know, extreme heat has been predicted for today.  In addition, there is also a “Spare the Air Day” scheduled due to the likelihood of the worst air quality in many years.

At Marshall Lane, “Safety First” is always our motto.  We care about the health and safety of all of the children and adults at our school site.   In response to this situation, we will be having a “rainy day” or in this case, an “extreme weather day” lunch period.  Students will eat in the cafeteria and then return to their air conditioned classrooms for a shortened lunch period.  In addition, p.e. classes will take place inside.

If you are available, we could use extra help in the classrooms.  No need to RSVP—just come by at 11:30 to help.  All noon aides, our administrator, and members of our office staff will support the students in the classrooms if we do not have enough parents who can assist us.

Have a wonderful three day weekend with your families and be safe out there!
