Principal's Message - June 4, 2015

Dear Parents,

There have been a number of special events over the past few weeks. Our 5th graders really enjoyed Colonial Day on May 8th. Thanks to the many volunteers that worked so hard to provide our students with such a great experience of life during colonial times. Last Friday, our 4th graders experienced what life might have been like in 1849 during the California Gold Rush. Events such as these are the kinds of activities that students remember and help to make learning come alive. Thanks to the many parents who helped make these events possible. We would not be able to do it without you!

Speaking of special events, two new ones for the Campbell Union School District occurred over the past week. Our first ever Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) performance took place on May 13th. Twenty-one of our 4th grade students sang with students from Sherman Oaks. A combination of musicians from all three of the middle schools played several selections. For the finale, the elementary school students sang “America” accompanied by the orchestra. It was a very impressive performance! Thanks to our music teacher, Mrs. Sharon Rosen, for teaching and directing our students. A special thanks to the students who performed and their parents for making it possible for them to attend.

On Saturday, May 16th, the district held a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math— STEAM Showcase at Monroe Middle School. What an amazing event! There were lots of displays and hands-on activities for the students and their parents. Thanks to Campbell Care Leader Kevin Theobold, and teachers Jyh Wong, Bindi Gill, and Sharon Hirsh for serving on our school site STEAM committee and for assisting at the STEAM Showcase on Saturday.

As we begin to look forward to the 2015-2016 school year, our staff will begin to form classes for next year. Various criteria that include, but are not limited to, gender, academic level, English Language Learner status, learning style, special needs, and behavior are all taken into consideration in placing students in classes. If there is any specific information that you believe that we need to know about your child in making placement decisions, a form is available in the office for that purpose. It needs to be turned in by Wednesday, May 27th. Since our goal is to have balanced classes, requests for specific teachers will not be accepted. Thank you in advance for respecting this process.
