Marshall Lane Elementary School

Marshall Lane Memo—September 25th, 2015

Dear Parents,

Last spring, all California students in 3rd to 5th grade participated in the first official year of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) otherwise known as the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) standardized tests.  This computer-based, adaptive assessment system was piloted the previous spring.  Last year’s administration of the test marks the first time that individual student scores were recorded to be shared with schools and families.

On or around October 1st, parents whose students were in 3rd to 5th grade last year will receive their child’s standardized test scores in the mail.  Keep in mind that it is impossible to compare the SBAC results with the previous assessment system STAR results.  The current tests cover the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in a format that is new to our students.  These new test results are considered to be a baseline for our school, our district, and the entire state of California.  The staff and I will be disaggregating and examining the scores in the upcoming weeks to assess our instructional strategies and approach.  As always, our goal is for continuous improvement in what we do to provide the best possible education for all of our students.  We are dedicated to this goal as we collaborate and work hard to do our best possible job for your children.

Once you have received your student’s test scores, check out the information on the CUSD website at https://www.campbellusd.org/news/newstudentreports for more information.  If you still have questions after accessing these resources, you may email me at pspencer [at] campbellusd.org or call me at (408) 364-4259 so I can address your questions.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our very first Family Bingo Night for the year that was held last week.  It was very well attended by our community and people who were there had a lot of fun!  A special thanks to our fantastic MCs—John Conta and Morgan Griffith—and to the Bingo Night organizers—Kim Wen, Stephanie Griffith, Jodie and Brent Topping—as well as our fabulous PTA for sponsoring this fun family event!

Sincerely,

Priscilla Spencer, principal
