Expanding Our Students’ Vocabulary – No Batteries Required

On Tuesday, December 1st, fifty volunteers from Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga distributed 1,296 dictionaries to 43 classrooms in 9 schools as part of Campbell Union School District's College and Career Curriculum Strand. They visited the third grade classrooms of Mrs. Brittany Gardner, Mrs. Bindi Gill, Ms. Sarah Wright, and Ms. Meghan Snelham. Students get to keep the dictionaries for their personal use at home or at school. Our Marshall Lane students were thrilled to receive this special gift.
As part of the presentation, each volunteer taught a short lesson on dictionary use through the use of word games and suggestions about ways to use this resource. Typically, presenters wear their college sweatshirts or career uniforms and discuss how literacy will affect the students' lives and future education. This aligns nicely with our message on College Day of the benefits of higher education.
The Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga has been part of this annual tradition providing dictionaries for every third grader in the Campbell Union School District for the past nine years. We are very grateful for their time and generous gift of dictionaries.
