Marshall Lane Elementary School

Construction Update from the Principal

Marshall Lane has undergone a lot of changes since students left in June, and more are happening daily as our construction and cleaning crews push hard to finish everything before students return. We are very excited about all of the positive changes that are taking place at our school site.

I assure you that, on August 23rd, we will welcome your child to a safe school and engaging lessons for students.

When we return, there will be a few fenced-off areas where the crews will be finishing up.  The surge in construction around the Bay Area caused a couple of delays in our timeline, so some of the work will have to continue into the fall.

Marshall Lane School was built in the 1960s and needed updates to its infrastructure—sewer, gas, electrical, water— as well as improved access for people with disabilities. Thanks to voter-approved school bonds, we are able to make these much-needed improvements.

The projects in this phase include:

  • Replacing aging underground utilities, like electrical and plumbing.
  • Re-grading the site to make it wheel chair accessible.
  • Removing the overhead power line on the east side of the site.
  • Creating safe new plaza area in front of the school for students to wait before and after school.
  • Improving the overall appearance and functionality of the site.
  • Adding a covered outdoor eating area, which will be completed in the near future.

To make these improvements, construction crews removed the concrete paving within the central core of the school.  The walkways will be replaced with new materials and re-landscaping of the affected areas

Our team of professional teachers and support staff are ready to welcome your child and begin a new year of exciting lessons on a safe school campus. Once the construction is completed, our campus will be updated, safer and much more functional.  The long-term benefits of this renovation will be worth the short-term inconveniences.

We will have more information about the renovation at our two Back to School Nights in September.  The Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 13th from 6:00 to 7:30.  Back to School Night for first to fifth grades will take place on Wednesday, September 27th from 6:00 to 7:30.  At this time, we will be able to update you on the progress of the construction.  Please plan to attend.  We are looking forward to our partnership with your family.
