Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Lane Community Members,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I am very pleased to be back at Marshall Lane again this year. Beginnings are always wonderful and starting a new school year brings enthusiasm from teachers, staff members, parents, and students.

This year will be an exciting one! Our amazing Parent Teacher Association Board is already planning many opportunities for families to come together and socialize and also to work together to raise money for our school. The PTA supports many of the most popular enrichment programs at our school such as Class Size Reduction Physical Education, Art Connections, classroom supplies, assemblies, and technology. Please join them in supporting our school along with our Marshall Lane Educational Foundation.  Log on to www.marshalllanepta.org for more information.

I am pleased to report that our entire talented group of teachers has returned to Marshall Lane this year, with the exception of one teacher. Ms. Andrea Lawryk decided to return to Rosemary Elementary School where she did her student teaching a few years ago.  She will be teaching 4th grade this year. We wish her well.  We are excited to have former middle school teacher, Kim Sisemore, joining our 5th grade team this year.  Ms. Sisemore brings a wealth of experience that will help our 5th grade team in preparing our students for their transition to middle school.

Also joining our teaching staff this year are three teachers from Rhythm & Moves, an outside agency that assists us in providing preparation periods for our teachers. Ms. Tavia Harwell and Ms. Lisa Cancilla will be teaching p.e. to our students.  Ms. Linda Jacoben will be teaching music along with our continuing music teacher, Mrs. Sharon Rosen. Our preparation periods continue to be been aligned on Mondays and Wednesdays to allow more time for our teachers to collaborate during the school day and still provide the students with the correct number of instructional minutes.

This year, the Campbell School District will be continue to fully implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and begin to implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). As educators, we are excited about what these new standards offer our students. There is a focus on depth of knowledge and understanding in all subject areas, reading and analyzing more non-fiction texts, building a strong mathematical foundation, an increased focus on writing, development of academic vocabulary, and application of knowledge to real life situations. We believe that the focus of CCSS and NGSS will help us to improve teaching and learning at Marshall Lane.

The entire staff and I are looking forward to a very productive school year at Marshall Lane. Let’s work together to make it our best year yet!

Regards,

Priscilla Spencer
